Night before last full surf day at Kandui has local elders from tribe swing by to dance, smoke a few cigs, and offer guests grub worms ( thumb siz) . Mike manned up this year. Chris took a pass. The marine biologist (me) ate two. Once you get over the wiggle, it's not too bad until you hit the crunchy mouth parts.

It feels good to explore other people's culture and tradition. At the same time, it feels better when they let you feel that you are welcome in their tribe. Hw I wish you could have made a longer article about seeing Mentawai Culture! I am sure that you have learned a lot of stuff while you were there. Based on my own assessment, they made you feel really important. They were very welcoming! I am hoping that you will try to explore other people's tribe in Asia!
